Hi,

I was wondering whether there is a way to schedule time machine backups? It seems to be constantly backing up to my external drive which is overkill.

is there a way to schedule when it backs up? I.e once a week etc? Thanks for any advice

Why not to switch to something else? Carbon copy cloner can be scheduled as you need it. Obviously, TM is not to your liking.
Logic behind TM is, that it will smartly keep relatively dense incremental backups which get less dense into the past. It is smart database and has little to no user controls.
Controlling it to backup so rarely defeats its logic and calls for different tool...
