Hello, I have searched different newsgroups and even the searched the internet
but I have not found an answer to this question.

Can you encrypt Time Machine backups without using File Vault, As far as I know Time Machine encryption requires File Vault to be switched on. If this happens it will start encrypting my computer which I don't want I just want to make a backup in Time Machine without having to worry about going near file vault.
Has anybody done this?

Two completely separate things. You can turn on TM encryption without Filevault on with no problems.
