Time machine backups: Use ONE external HDD for 2 devices?

Can i use one hdd to make time machine backups for two mac devices (mac mini and macbook air)?

Or does it require one HDD per device?

Yes, you can use one hard drive to backup multiple Macs with Time Machine.

Yes. I do the same using CCC and Arq. I recommend you make make more than one backup of each device in case the drive becomes corrupt or dies.

A backup of a backup should not be recommended because it does not protect from corruption and will rarely function correctly.

You should recommend a second, independent backup instead.

That was what I was doing. Make 2 backups in case one goes bad. I edited my post to be more clear.

Separate drive for each Mac.
Separate backup for each Mac.
If something goes wrong with one, you'll still have the other...
