Time Machine could not finish backup

My 320G drive inside the MBPro is getting filled up, (only 27G unused) and the Time Machine failed after backing up about 20% of the drive.

Does anyone know the possible causes ? and how to fix it?

I suspect there was a bad file on the hard drive that stopped it. If that was the reason, is there any way to identify and/or repair it.

Thanks in advance for helping.
