my time machine does not detect my cavalry 500gb removable hard drive, can anyone suggest anything. I can open the hard drive, write on it and read form it however i am unable to pair it with time machine, it jst does not detect anything. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Make sure it's formatted as HFS+ (Mac OS Extended (journaled)). Many external drives are NTFS/FAT32 out of the box.

Not without something like MacDrive. But, if you want to use the drive with both Mac and Windows, you can create 2 partitions and format one as FAT32 (NTFS is read-only in OS-X).

ouch that sucks, i guess i will just get a separate drive for my mac. Thanks guys
