I recently tried to run a backup on my Time Machine (My Book) for my iMac, and after it finished, I received a message telling me that the backup was unsuccessful. After several other attempts, with different backup dates, I keep getting the same results. Can this be due to a corruption on my Time Machine hardware, and if so, how can I format the Time Machine? Thanks

airport utility --> manual setup --> choose "discs" in the icons at the top of the panel --> time capsule will likely already be selected and give you two options, "archive" or "erase." Choose erase and confirm it so long as you understand it will delete all contents.

Pretty sure that's the procedure.

Airport Utility?

I opened Airport Utility and it showed a screen searching, and searching...but no manual setup showed up, actually, nothing was available.

details?

If I understand correctly:
You have an iMac that uses an external USB "My Book" Western Digital hard drive for doing Time Machine backups to.

Does the drive mount when connected? Can you read/write to the drive? You will need to run Apple's disk utility in your utility folder to check the drive for problems.

If you are running OS X Lion make sure you have the latest 10.7.3 updates which include Time Machine fixes.
