I have a friend who has a 3,1 and I'm helping set it up for her. When I connect a bus powered USB HDD that she bought for backup and set it up for Time Machine, it does the initial backup and the next couple fine, but then it says "Could not complete the back up. An error occurred while creating the back up folder".
I erased reformatted the drive and it exhibited the same behaviour. I took it back to the Apple store thinking it was a hardware issue, and they said it is fine. I've got hold of another bus powered drive and am going to try it tomorrow, and it has FireWire as well as USB, so I should be able to tell if it is a USB issue. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Oh, I forgot to mention that the Pro is running fully updated Snow Leopard.
