Time Machine & External HDD volume vs partition

Hi Folks.

If I have one of these and configure it as a 1.5TB hardware mirror, could I create a HFS+ 500Gb volume for selective iMac TimeMachine and the remaining 1TB space as a storage volume?

I'm trying to figure out how best to use it. I'll probably use the iMacs' internal drive for Audio and Images and a scratch disk and the external for video storage and other less used files, probably via FW800 and hopefully eSATA in the future.

I'm not positive, but if its a hardware Raid setup, you might be able to. I think you should be able to just go to Disk Utility, and partition it like a normal drive.

as long as its a mountable hd partition it should work for tm
