time machine greyed out SD card...

trying to NOT exclude an always-connected SD card from time machine. could the exfat format be the problem? or?

helped a friend move her music and photos to the card drive. all works well, but we can't get it to backup...
it's greyed out in the 'exclude' list (so i can't remove it from that list).

any thoughts?

The format is a problem. I have not tried to include a SD card to a Time Machine backup, but I do know that Time Machine will only backup disks formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
