It would be nice if Time Machine could use iCloud Drive as a back up location.

With the new affordable storage options, this could be a great way to back up a MacBook Air.

This could be nice, but you'd definitely need to shell out for a paid iCloud Drive storage share. The default 5GB won't cut it.

I hope somebody comes up with a way of automatically mirroring files to iCloud drive. It'd be nice, for example, to have specific items in my Documents folder which I tag for automatic backup. Not quite like Time Machine. I think somebody will inevitably figure this out now that Apple officially allows you to dump non-AppStore-related files there.

I don't have Yosemite to test this, but from what I have read so far it looks like that iCloud folder is just another local folder on the system that happens to get synced to iCloud. That being the case, you should be able to symlink your Documents folder to the iCloud folder and that would allow you to leave Documents where it is and still have it synced to iCloud. Or you could just do this with one folder inside Documents if you want.

I do this now with Dropbox and it works well.

If you don't want to mess with Terminal commands to make the symlink, you can use the app MacDropAny to make the link for you.
