Time Machine message

Today Time Machine announced that for "efficiency" it needed to make a second backup. Is this normal? In all the time I've previously used Time Machine, I've never seen that notice. It's in the process of backing up my entire hard drive once again onto my Time Capsule.

Did you recently upgrade to 10.6.4? There is a known issue with 10.6.4 and Time Capsules. However, if you do a new backup - it should resolve the issue. It has been discussed in detail on the Apple support forums...

Thanks for the link. I upgraded to 10.6.4 when it first came out and everything was fine until yesterday. The Apple discussion mentions how it might take a few months for the problem to appear. The sad thing is, all of my backups before yesterday are now lost. It sort of defeats the purpose of having a backup utility.
