So I had been traveling a little and hadnt backed up in awhile. Last time I backed up, my Downloads folder had one .flv in it. When I finally backed up again, the flv had gotten trashed, but now theres an aiff and a >4 GB folder full of videos. So I got suspicious when Time Machine finished in a matter of seconds. Sure enough, I looked at the new backup, and it still said my downloads folder had only the flv. It didnt take time to update any other changes either. It seems that no changes are being detected at all, not just to the downloads folder, but anywhere. Is there a way I can get this working again without restarting Time Machine from scratch with a full backup?

I know it sounds silly, but did you try a restart of the machine?
I just had something similar happen where I added a bunch of MP3s to my iTunes library....and I went to make sure TM was backing them up and it wasn't. No idea why? I restarted the machine and forced a backup and it picked up all the changes fine.
