Not sure if my TM drive got more noisy or what but I often hear TM backing up on external HDD and also slowing down my mac

So I was wondering if would make sense switching TM backup drive from HDD to an SSD the it should also be smaller around 1Tb but I reduced my system "main" HHD at 500Gb in use 360Gb
All less valuable data backup is on my NAS or external HDD via Carbon Copy Cloner once a day
My total TM disk space in use are 1.73 Gb

Now TM is doing first morning backup of 2,53Gb...

Would it make sense and get also my mac faster?
How can I shrink my TM back?

My "broken-record" opinion only:
STOP using Time Machine.
START using a cloning app such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.

Your "backup life" will go much better!

How about doing it the other way around. A daily CCC clone on SSD for speedy restart in case of failure and a long time history via TM in the NAS. That is the way my backup is organized.

There's really no reason other then executing the backup faster to switch to a SSD.

As for TM vs. CCC, that's really personal preference, I never had an issue with TM.

My wife's iMac became flaky ten minutes before one of her eBay auctions finished. I was the hero by switching (cmd - r) to the clone SSD within two minutes.
Did the restore to the primary SSD later in the evening.

But she deleted a file and noticed it some weeks later. That is the time when TM becomes the hero.

It is not an "or" but an "and" :)

I make a pretty intense use of TM since I use it as a fast "version control" option for some work files

Maybe TM HDD is almost faulty, I ordered an SSD and I need to shrink my backup of 500Gb, older files are from 2017 and not sure if I also have older mac backup

How can I check if I have an other mac backup? Faster way to keep just a back per month of 2017 and 2018?
