Just got a 1 TB external hard drive for Christmas. Partitioned it to 750 GB and 250 GB (approximate size) I have time machine directed to the 750 GB drive for backup (even named it "Time Machine") and all went well during the first backup. Had about 500 gig to back up after telling time machine not to back up everything. Now, whenever it goes to backup every hour I get an error saying "Time Machine error, The backup volume could not be found" The volume always shows up in the finder. If I then select backup now it backs up with no problem. It is a Seagate Free Agent Pro hooked up through firewire. I have used time machine before with another firewire drive but smaller drive before and never had this problem...any suggestions?

Oh and sorry running latest 10.5.6 op system

What version of OS/X are you running? What you mentioned is a known problem with Time Machine and has supposedly been fixed in 10.5.6.

I installed 10.5.6 but had so many problems with it, I restored my CCC clone of 10.5.5. IMHO, 10.5.6 is the most problematic update Apple has ever released.

I just use CCC 3.2 and have it do a daily incremental clone while archiving all files on the backup volume. Works great and most importantly it is reliable when doing a restore. I know of way too many people that thought Time Machine had them covered. But when they tried a restore, they sadly realized that Time Machine had screwed over them. Your mileage may vary.
