I haven't updated to Leopard yet but was wondering how much space Time Machine really used for a backup from people who have Leopard.

If I have a 160gb hard drive and I plan on keeping my computer for (just to be very conservative) 6 years, how big of an external hard drive will I need to get?

In the explanation given to me at the apple store they said that because the technology uses hard links you don't actually need much more than the size of the hard drive but I'm very skeptical of this explanation and hearing it from an apple employee doesn't give me much reassurance as they've been wrong before.
