So I'll be getting my new MBP on Monday. Can I use time machine to move my data over to the new box or will it screw up the drivers and such (my old MBP is an early November 2007 model)? Also can I use the same HD to backup both laptops or do I need to get another HD for the new laptop?

You can use Migration Assistant to transfer files from a Time Machine backup; in other words, yes.

And again, yes, you can use one drive to backup more than one computer with Time Machine. Just keep in mind that this will limit the available space, and therefore the amount of time you are able to travel backwards.
