Time machine stopped after 10.6.1

I have 2 Macs. Both are backing up to a 1 TB extreme. Today, the iMac started etting delayed failures while accessing TM. I restarted both the Mac and the TM and now it is hung on "Making backup disk available".

Anyone know what could cause this?

Snow Leopard incompatible drive for Time Machine

Having the same problem with a Buffalo drive LSH-XH1.0TL. Buffalo's techs are telling me that Snow Leopard made some changes that will require them to do a firmware update for my NAS before I can use it for Time Machine. Anybody have any news on how the updates are going?
