Time machine stuck on 5 seconds

Hi guys, relatively new to mac. I successfully completed a back up on time machine with my external hard-drive five days ago. Today it seems that time machine has backed up 1.88 gb of 1.88 gb and says there is 5 seconds remaining. It has been stuck on this "phase" for a hour or so. Is this normal? How should I go about completing a successful backup?

Choose "Skip this backup" and then start the backup again.

In addition, you might want to clear your PRAM and point TM back at the disk you are using for backups.
