my g5 has a 160gb harddrive, my time machine seems to have used over 300gb, why is this?

Time machine makes multiple sequential backups. It will use up as much space as it has access to.

It tracks all changes made to your files until the hard drive runs out of space.

If you are not wanting it to take up that much space, either partition your hard drive or just throw what ever else you want on there (Time Machine will not overwrite it)

if in time machine click on the cog on nonessential folders (music, movies) and delete all back ups. What happened to me is time machine decided I needed 2 copies of everything.
