I've tried to find the answer to this problem on the web for two days, but I can only find other error problems.

I've been backing up via Time Machine about once every two months since October 2008. I also use the drive for extra video space and some extra files I don't often reference. However, when I tried to back-up a few days ago, Time Machine told me it couldn't find the drive. So I re-selected my external and told it to back-up. However, when I did this it said the drive didn't have enough space for a 165Gb back-up.

So my real question is, how do I get time machine to realize I already have back-ups of my whole system and I only need it to back-up the new information. This should only be 10Gb, tops.

Any clues would be awesome, thanks.
