I set up my external drive 2 days ago, and as far as i can tell no new backups have been made. when i click on the application is shows no windows beyond the first one and no dated on the right side.

please help me.

All is appriciated, i know its late. thank you

edit: aditional details; i have a imac 20' 2.0ghz with 2gb RAM, and an iomega 500gb external hd (the one on apple.com

Take a look at the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences.

It should show the times of the oldest, newest and when the next backup is planned. Also, check "Options..." and make sure your drive isn't excluded.

You can also initiate a backup manually from the Dock icon.
 
when i got to system preferences and click options the drive i back up on is there, what do i do?
 
Make sure your HD isn't named something with periods or " in it. That really messes things up. I had my built in HD named something with a " and it gave me all sorts of F'd up installs and it messed up my Time Machine when it would work.
