time out err using chrome

I'm on a macbook pro laptop. 10.8.5 and I've been getting err timed out session using chrome and safari. I've cleared out the cache. I've repaired permissions. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions. I've done some searches on the net but most all are for PC's.
