Feels good to have finally crossed one million points [see my sig]. That PS3 and the core 2 duo iMac at work have really pumped up the daily average.

We are getting a 2.8GHz octo-core Mac Pro with 4GB RAM at work sometime in the next week or two, and I have our IT guy talked into setting up F@H on it just to see what it can do. Anyone know what kind of numbers this beast might produce?

hello multi-quote!

currently in 7th place here, but rising...

great job, keep it up! getting ready to jump a few places it would seem.

...since his sig is something about daring people to join and try to catch him. Lots of people took him up on it and proceeded to blow by him in the standings.... If not for Dred, I never would have started.

QFT. :) he was fighting to keep 50 for awhile. you still going to transfer points after hitting 1 million?

looks like the points leader blackadder has stopped producing. :(

saw that. :( hoping it's just a 'grad school' thing or perhaps mr. bean just needed a vaction and will be back... or could be there's to much football on right now... that's soccer for you 'yanks.

he's just scared that i'm coming after him!

date overtake: 12.14.10, 4am / 2.8 Years... go get him tiger! here's hoping you are an endurance guy and not a sprinter...

sweet! and great job... MacPro stats info from a different thread;

4JNA - SMP on MacPro said:
stats for folding i pulled from the 'FAHLog.txt' file. it's taking about 11.5 minutes to complete a percent with no others apps running, not using the system. so unless i am nuts, 11.5 * 100 / 60 = 19.2 hours to complete a work unit. that's really freaking fast. for comparison i pulled stats off a couple other systems. 1.66 CD mini, 46 minutes per percent. 2.0 C2D mini, 21 minutes per percent. 2.66 E6700 C2D peecee, 16 minutes per percent.

the xp box tends to average around 1550-1600 points per day depending on the work unit. running the math on the MacPro, 1760 points (SMP unit) / 19.2 hours to complete = 91.67 points per hour * 24 hours = 2200 points per day on average. while showing 30% cpu idle. amazing.

an amazing machine, and mine is the old version.

hoping for several more months of cold weather here in central IL (USA). when it gets warm, my SMP geek heaters will be going off. :( cheaper than natural gas, and gets me more points!

best of luck folding to all.

yeah i know i've got a long ways to go. i do plan to be here awhile though.

but i do hope that he comes back and starts putting up numbers. as a team, we are about to be passed in less than a week!

Well, first I have to start folding again. Just upgraded to a new MBP 2.5ghz as of today. Any suggestions as to which client to use now?

go with SMP only if u can leave the machine on and complete units in 3-4 days. you can with your new machine if you have it on 24/7 all the time. if you forget and put it to sleep overnight or something you may be out of luck and lose out on points (if points are your goal)

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html

look at GRO-SMP deadlines. u get more points but less time to complete

otherwise download the FAH6 beta, you can specify large/small workunits, memory dedication, and get workunits that take longer to complete

oh and nice 45nm MBP! me = jealous

Well being that it's a laptop, I'm worried about frying it. So 24/7 is out of my comfort zone. The FAH6 beta seems to only be available for Windows (at least on the downloads page it does). Am I wrong about this?

Thanks to you and twoodc for the props! It's replacing a 1ghz TiBook which goes to the wife and a PM G5 which goes back to my former employer.

ure right looks like the 2 options are rosetta (emulated) v5/v6 beta or SMP. unless there some other hidden options

a cool pad might help out the life of your laptop too if ure gonna fold on it a lot

looks like i'm going to be out for at least a few days. Atlanta was hit by a tornado last night, and my dorm got hit. luckily i wasn't there (i'm there now either). but there's no power in the building.

well i got laid off, so except my output to suck like shiiiite

wow, that sucks. points smoints. hope you land on your feet. best of luck.
(and find work in a data center with like 3000 blade racks and the admin password... and permission of course)
meanwhile meeble is kicking ass and taking names. way to go!

I was folding with my MacPro for about aweek, until i noticed the temps of my processors was averaging 130-150 degrees. Shut it down & had 80-90 degree temps. Willing to help, just not willing to Kill my $7,000+ machine to do it.:(

it's hot. damn hot. so hot my MP burst into flames...

...the temps of my processors was averaging 130-150 degrees.

so, about ambient for phoenix. i fail to see the problem...:p

if it's really something you want to do (and we need your help!), download smc FanControl 2.1.2 and bump up the cpu fans a couple hundred rpm. you can't hear the difference, and it will drop the temps by several degrees. i've been folding 24x7 over the last 6 months on a first gen MP here without any issues for what it's worth.

best of luck.

do you use fancontrol? i've been folding, without using fancontrol. should i be worried about my temps? i have a first gen MP also

i'm a fan of that control

yeah, i use it. works great. on the MP i am using non apple memory pulled from a peecee server (no fin heatsinks) so just wanted to move a bit more air. even without fancontrol, i never saw any temps that worried me. the MP will take care of itself, that is if it's hot, it ramps up. the thermal limits on most of the components in there is well above 90c, so not much to worry about.

where i find fancontrol the most useful is on remote systems. i can create profiles that fit the setup. 'default' for customer use, 'folding' for overnight use, and 'max' to blow some dust out of the system once a month. all with the click of a mouse and for (donation made) free! sweet. :D

oh ok. that makes me feel a little better. my mac pro's fans aren't on blasting all the time, so i'm not too worried
