thank you :)

yeah rc5 is more focused on the production and goal than the means. and it has a very finite goal that can be measured.

ha thanks. ive got so little time this semester for fun...i really love distributed computing and this teams spirit. i dont like the competition too much in this or anything else, cause i think it brings out certain innate things in ppl best left innate.

i must admist though, no one would really give so much of their time and thought into this project if it weren't for turning research into competition,. i really got to hand it to the researchers for that bit of cleverness.
Yup rc5 ends when you crack the encryption.

No one really would care if there wasn't competition which is the sad thing.

I choice folding over seti and also above rc5 because of what the project acually does.

That was how I made my decision.

I agree whole heartedly with you MrMacman. We are benefiting humankind.

By the way what happened that we fell to #19! :(

Sagoons stepped up their production over the last few weeks. But we shouldn't let it get us down... ;)

Fold on... :)

Edit: I just noticed we've had quite a few new members this week. Welcome to the team, and thanks for your contributions. :)

Yeah, SAGoons passing us was a foregone conclusion with the 10+ k/day output difference.

On the bright side, we'll get back into 18th in a couple of weeks. :)

And, to echo MacFan25, welcome new folders!

I have faith in you Rower_CPU, that we will indeed return to our rightful #18 placement. You must have the strategy all figured out already. It just made me very sad to see that today.

I also want to extend a hearty welcome to our new folding members. Welcome aboard and keep folding. ;)

So many new people joining--that's great!

I know that I'm not producing as much since I've been playing more and I'm not coming close to the 600-700+ points per week.

I'm still surprised at the progress the team has made in the last two years.

Good news:
Well I added another 3.2 P4 and a 2.8 P4.
Bad news:
I was also running a lab of 16 ibooks @ 500 Mhz each but had to kill the Folding because the ibooks were overheating. :(

I just wanted to tell you all that I may still be a newbie at this but I have NO plans on stopping folding.... I hope to always have at least 2 processors running 24/7 and I have been trying to work out a deal where I can gain between 20 and 30 more (windoze) computers to fold for macrumors.

Thank you for recommending fire daemon for Win XP. The deal would involve running the program without "everyday" users knowing about it (partly so that they don't stop it) I like the feature where I can make it restart folding automatically if it quits....

[edit: clarification]

I just added another 2.5 GHZ Pentium 4, It has a 70 point tinker now though :(.

Also, when we pass the next teem is there anyway to get front page exposure, that REALLY helps us every time we get it

Latest member to the team

Rower, I survived colon cancer 2 years ago (after having 6" of it removed) and enduring 4 months of intensive chemotherapy. Since then I have been clean but a week ago I was taken to the emergnecy room with abdominal pains and ended up having emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder 2 days later. I have been home now for a week recovering, and have been trying to learn what "folding" was all about.

Well.... I bacame the newest team member a few moments ago and am already working on protein p731_BBA5_md

I have a lowly G4-500 with 680mb RAM but I am going to leave it running 24/7 from now on. I feel good about it now.

(raising coffee mug) Here's to Folding....

Sparky's, welcome on board, good to hear that you recovered! Because you have a slower/older machine and you are using the graphical interface, folding is going slower. The graphical interface uses pretty much processing power. So you could better get the script from mc68k or get the text console. They are not as fancy and don't let you actually see the proteines, but your folding will be almost twice as fast!

Thanks, I am really not familiar with anything but the graphical interface (I'm a Graphics Professional) but I will look into it. I have actually opened the terminal once, did my Chevy Chase impersonation and closed out of it. If being able to go twice as fast will help then I'm game.

I do have a question though.
I have 3 family members who use this Mac and as I am logged on and am the Administrator, how do I keep the folding happening while someone else logs on? can it be set up to run at the root level?

P.S. what happens when I want to switch over from graphical to terminal will I loose the processing done so far? or should I wait for the end of this routine then switch and start fresh?

I will download the apps and wait for verification.
Thanks, Sparky

Welcome to the team, Sparky! Glad to hear your survivor story - it really drives home what the project is all about. :)

I'll answer your question in the FAQ thread in a minute...

Sorry to hear about those horrible instances.

I hope you heal quickly and nothing else arises.

:raises glass:

To the new folders!

Sorry guys, hate to say it, but I'll be pulling my little renderfarm offline this weekend for two weeks.... I am going on holiday and shutting everything down... So, for the ones that have their heart set on passing me, here is your chance, but after those two weeks, I will be back! (and probably with more power then before!!). The rest of you, fold on!

How dare you have fun! :D

Didn't you just pass my idle name? I'll have to retake some ground, just to give you something more to do when you return. ;)

All is well, I am healing OK and have returned to work on a limited basis. The sad thing is I got hit with a Tinker Sunday and here on Tuesday I've got 65 out of 400 frames done :( but I'm running 24/7 so any week now ;)
I'm just glad to do my part.

I'll be enjoying myself very well in Greece, where it is now 28 degrees celsius, nice and warm. I'll be thinking about you guys when I am lying in the sun doing nothing! :p

And yes bousozoku, I did pass you a couple of days ago, it was like you where standing still :D. Well here is your chance and pass me! But I will be back and as said before probably with some more power (on my to add list: G5 1.6, P4 2.0, both running 24/7).

Keep on the folding!

Hope you recover quickly! Look at the bright side, at work you can add more folding machines :D. About your Tinker, you can delete it and hope that you get something else back, but I have tried it, but got the same WU Tinker back (5 times....).

I'm patient. And besides 70 points is nothing to sneeze at (that will double my count) the down side is, do I want to wait the calculated 16 days total to finish it!!! 11 more days from here
In the meantime I'm in the process of getting my 2 Macs at work going maybe in the next 2 weeks or so. My boss is keeping tight reins on our migration to OS X, so until then :(

Keep up that dedication.

Dedication is a great thing MrMacman. It's important that we support each other.
