I don’t think you have understood my post as you seem to be reiterating what I’ve already said back to me.

Thanks.
I understood your posts just fine. You started out by saying the biggest problem is people thinking that what they were buying was objectively better than something else and the reason they were doing it was because they were too poor to buy the phone you think is actually better. It was *objectively* one of the dumbest things I've read in a long time. And yes, based on someone's needs and wants, a specific phone can OBJECTIVELY be better for them than another phone. And this may shock you, but many people with an abundance of money have an abundance of money because they spend it wisely.

You can angrily rant all you like and clumsily prove my original point in so doing but please stop trying to infer a financially discriminatory meaning to my post that simply is not there.

The XS and XR are very different phones in tech and value as per my post; you have proceeded on a flawed understanding of subjective/objective to suit your slant.

As I said to the OP - get what suits. Enjoy the anger!

Everyone seems to think that the XR is the phone for those that can’t afford the XS. For me, affordability isn’t a problem, but the price for a 256gb XS is £1,149. That is just mental. 64gb isn’t enough so the 256gb is the viable option. Just, no.

The 128gb XR comes in at £799 - that’s £350 less. For that, you lose zoom functionality, a true bookah camera effect and a OLED screen. Big whoop di do, basil. The screen resolution issue is a complete red herring - you have to be within about 4 foot of a 50” tv to see the difference between 1080p and 4K and the same thing applies here; unless your shoving your eye to it or deliberately zooming to an absurd degree for any practical purpose, there is a nominal difference. Yes blacks and deeper on the oled but who the hell has ever said “hmm the blacks just aren’t deep enough on my phone”. I’ll save that for, ya know, a TV.

The big difference with the screen is the HDR - that does indeed make a difference so the XR will always look slightly worse. But I’ll take the purportedly better battery any day of the week.

I agree with your reasoning and plan to get the XR myself, but do we know that the XR does not have zoom functionality?

It doesn’t have the optical zoom that comes with the second lens on the XS. It does have a digital zoom.

I’m pretty sure I have never used the zoom on my phone camera... well, OK, a handful of times. Maybe I would if the zoom was better. Ultimately, I’m not tempted to pay £350 for better zoom functionality.

I read "you lose zoom functionality" and read into that display zoom, not optical zoom. Thanks for clarifying. I agree about the optical zoom--it would be nice but not for the difference between the 128GB XR I would choose and the alternative 256GB XS (I need higher than a 64GB).

For me, the affordability of the phone is not a problem. It has been my plan for a while. I would never get a 256gb in the MAX because my 5s has 64gb and I don´t use them all. If I get the XR I would go for the 128gb, becuase $50 for 64 more gb of space is really cheap.

My main problem of which phone buy is worth it the difference price. If you put the price and differences between them, is that worth it buying the Max over the XR?

It simply isn't worth the difference to me. We keep our phones for a long time and simply use them. The primary reason I'm planning to upgrade is my wife is starting to have some annoyances with her 4S which I bought in 2011.

What the XS/XS Max bring to the table does not justify the price in our family's world. And if it does for others, that's great--it's good to have that option.

That's where I'm at. They're both obviously really nice phones. I can afford the Max, but I can't justify it to myself. It's just not worth the extra money to me. If the XR didn't exist, I'd probably get the 8 plus instead. For me to pay over 1000 dollars for a phone, they really have to justify it, and they really haven't.

I'm usually on my MBP or iPP. If I were on my iPhone all the time as others are, then perhaps I could see my way to the XS or XS Max. Perhaps. Maybe. Possibly.

Thanks. I think that´s my feeling here: justify it to myself. Do I want the XSMax? Yes, but pay $350 more for soemthing? Not really sure about it.

My other "problem" here is that I´m from Spain, but I live in the US in a state without taxes. I will return to Spain next year. So if I compare the prices and the change from $ to €, is really cheap the phone here. I see it as good oportuny of getting the Max. If I were in Spain I wouldn´t think about to get the Max.

I mean all the people talking about the 326 ppi, not being a 1080p screen, that kind of complains.

Those people are literally just spec whores who like to find things to complain about. The 326ppi is more than fine and having a 1080p screen or a 4K screen on your phone is overkill. And I have perfect 20/20 vision, the ONLY time you MIGHT see a difference is on text and even then it's text that is so small you wouldn't want to read it anyway. The people who complain that it won't play 1080 or 1440 videos don't even have clue what they are talking about because it does. Plays it just fun. You're not "seeing" 1080/1440 due to the screen resolution but you're getting the quality/wasting your battery/data on it. And those who can see the difference between 720 videos and 1080 videos on their phones are most likely lying. Not all of course. There are some people with super vision. But not as many as the amount of whiners on online.

I'm actually going from the X to the Xr this year. It's a slightly bigger phone than the X which I felt was a little too small and has everything I need and is in RED!

So yesterday I went to the Apple Store and after looking I bought the XR black 128gb (the red and blue look really good buy I have the feeling thay I would get tired of a colorful phone). And I´m loving it. I´m glad that I waited and didn´t buy the XSMax.
I´m really surprise with the battery life. I turned it on at 9.30 am, did all the installation, download apps, try the camera, and playing around with it. It was 2% at 00.40 when I went to bed. It wasn´t full when I turned it on.
The screen looks really good to me.

Thanks everybody for your opinions. And yes, for a normal person that wants upgrate their old iphone this is it. Not really worth it the price difference. More battery and more storage for less price.
