I'm really close to getting a Macbook Pro 15'', 3.06ghz, 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HDD and a 24'' LED Cinema Display.

This is a massive investment for me, so I was wondering, how long do you think this computer will last me until technology has gone so far ahead I need to upgrade?

My previous computer was a:

Toshiba Satellite A300, 2.53ghz, 15'', 640GB 5400rpm HDD, 4GB 800Mhz DDR2 RAM.

We have no idea. What do you use your computer for? If it's internet, music, and photo management then I'd say you don't need a new computer in the first place. If you're at the other end of the spectrum (a "power user") then you'll never be satisfied, and it will be time to upgrade next year. ::shrug::

It depends on what your needs are. But for the average user, I'd say 4 or 5 years.

That is more or less my experience, too. Upgrade when you need to, or have to; wait, if you merely want what is available now, unless finance is not a problem, as there will be further major changes over the next while.

Cheers
