Haha mcrumors, took me all the way through this thread to notice it but nice.

I remember Spock from Star Trek basically made a comment about TV like that. I believe the episode was called "Bread and Circuses". Spock didn't say Scary but since he is half human he probably thought that.

There was a quote in Star Trek NG that said something along the lines of "TV was a fad in the 20th and early 21th century"!!

When I read the comment, I too had a trek association. I thought of the ST:TNG season one ender "The Neutral Zone" in which Data remarked that television went out of style in 2030. In 1988, when the show aired, that was unthinkable to most people. In 2011, it's not so outlandish of an idea.

G4 is actually one of three channels I watch. Get back FOX and add NBC and I'll be interested. Until then, how's Hulu Plus doing? Why hasn't anyone mentioned it yet?

I'm always amazed at how much work studios go to to keep people from watching their shows.

When your hands are tied, your hands are tied.

I'm not a huge fan of Time Warner, but hey, there's not much they can do here. It's actually a great idea, allowing channels to be watched from any screen so long as you have a subscription...

The fact that some networks are against this is mind boggling.... why on earth would you want to decrease potential viewership when your revenue is based on increasing viewership?

I've used the TW iPad app for a couple of weeks and it's not bad. These knucklehead content providers think they can charge you for every screen you watch their so called entertainment. I can only imagine that by the time all is said and done, the TW app will only have home shopping channels available. These content providers, whether they be music or tv keep trying to keep their old obsolete business model intact and seem to fight the advancement of technology. If they had their way, there would be a paid app for every tv channel!

Back to torrents.

Ho well, twas fun while it lasted. Edited out commercials on every program, automagically.

I win.

Do these companies really want people to pay for the same content twice? Surely they can't realistically expect to a get premium for viewing in the same location but just through a different medium?

Of course they do!!!!!

Its the same with music companies who feel that if you want to listen to your purchased music at home and then anywhere else you should pay twice.

Just buy a Slingbox and watch any channel you want, anywhere you want.

Ditto! Slingbox rocks! And it's even more fun when you have a friend or two in other states that allow you to use their Slingbox to watch events that are blacked out in your own area. :)

Typical

This is a typical out of touch cable company STILL trying to get people to pay for a channel line up that includes 90% of choices they'll never look at.

Enough of this Time Warner, and the rest of you. Bring on the Netflix, Roku's, and AppleTV's of the world.

wonder if this is why direcTV never came out with this functionality. Generally they are ahead of the curve (TWC) with comes to actually providing value for the customers, to some degree.

what are you talking about? it's not time warners fault....u can blame the networks.

Well they removed everything good, so this is pretty much a load of crap now.

Unless you want to watch Ron Burgundy...ahem I mean Chris Matthews...on your iPad.

TWC is the worst service I ever subscribed... EVER. When changing channels I constantly see 'Please wait...' on the black screen and the whole thing is so slow.
App for a change works great.

Yup. If I ever switch providers I'm putting a Slingbox in my dad's house so I can watch the NFL Sunday Ticket.

You can pay the Yesnetwork.com 100 bucks to watch the Yankees online at work, or I can watch for free on my Slingbox.

Good for TWC for continuing to go on but with the channels allowing them.

If the group of people want to stay out, let them stay out.

I like several of the channels still be offered and I suspect TWC continuing to add more and more will eventually catch a nice niche if not much more.

TV is trash anyway. Who has time left to waste watching commercials & shodily slapped together shows?

Have time to kill? Do something constructive on Inkpad or iDraw.
Want some light entertainment on while you do something productive? Netflix
Want something cheap and raunchy? Youpr0n

There is nothing TV does that one of these other things doesn't do better.

I don't want to do anything productive or constructive. Just want to watch tv and chill on the couch.

And yet if it weren't for those shows, most people wouldn't care about Netflix streaming.

I think it's Time you're Warned about Cable.

Go with DirecTV. Their new iPad app is awesome, acts as the best remote ever. Instead of paging through listings, I can swipe momentum style through the guide on my screen and tune my TV directly through it. No iPad watching yet, but I imagine sometime soon enough when they all start to offer it, the competition will force it. I can create multiple guides for things like sports, kids, movies, news. They all live update. Set and control your DVR all through the app.

Like others have said, if you want true Mac/PC and iPad viewing, get a slingbox. I thought about it, but for now I'll just wait for the DirecTV to bring it to the app.
