does timecapsule come with some sort of automatic switch on/ off option where you can launch it from your computer instead having to turn it on/ off manually?

does it go standby or is it running all the time once it's on?

Time "Capsule" or "Machine" (or both)?

Not sure what you mean, here; I suspect one of is misunderstanding.

Time Capsule is an as-yet undelivered product consisting of an Airport Extreme Base Station with an internal hard disk drive.

Time Machine is a software application that can automatically make periodic snapshot backups to a connected hard drive or to the drive inside a Time Capsule.

You can choose what drive TM should use, and it can be the one in a TC.

TM can readily be controlled to make periodic backups, switch target drives, stop making backups, or make one immediately on command.

Is the answer to your question in there somewhere? If not, we can try again.

I know that but my question was more about if timecapsule itself is physically on (power) all the time without going automatically to standby. i mean do you have to manually switch the disk on to be able to use it or will it activate itself wirelessly, respectively switch itself off when not used for like an hour (for example)

Odds are it will go to "sleep" like any other attached hard disc.
But as deboni said, its not released yet so we can't know for sure.

But I HIGHLY doubt there will be a ON/OFF switch
