TimeMachine Migrate from Sierra to High Sierra

I just purchased a late-2016 MBP since my 2012 MBP continued to have major issues and needs to be restored entirely.

I have a TimeMachine backup on my LaCie drive. The old MBP was Sierra. New MBP is 10.12.6

QUESTION: When I restore from my TimeMachine, will it go back to the old version of Sierra or will it allow the new MBP to keep 10.12.6

It wouldn't let you restore a backup that is on an earlier OS which shipped with your machine. If it does manage to restore (somehow) then it'll just cause a world of errors.

When you go to restore during the initial setup, use Migration Assistant instead and it'll pull all the apps/data from your backup.

So as long I use Migration Assistant, my new Mac will keep the newer OS and all other apps/data should restore properly?
