I just purchased a late-2016 MBP since my 2012 MBP continued to have major issues and needs to be restored entirely.

I have a TimeMachine backup on my LaCie drive. The old MBP was Sierra. New MBP is 10.12.6

QUESTION: When I restore from my TimeMachine, will it go back to the old version of Sierra or will it allow the new MBP to keep 10.12.6

Thank you for any information or tips you can offer!

It wouldn't let you restore a backup that is on an earlier OS which shipped with your machine. If it does manage to restore (somehow) then it'll just cause a world of errors.

When you go to restore during the initial setup, use Migration Assistant instead and it'll pull all the apps/data from your backup. :)

So as long I use Migration Assistant, my new Mac will keep the newer OS and all other apps/data should restore properly?
