Timemachine on iMac

Ok so I know you are able to put partitions in a harddrive, so I was wondering if I could partition 50Gb or so of an iMac to be used for Timemachine?😕 Is this a really dumb idea?

I wouldn't, because if the drive fails - so does your backup.

Defeats the purpose surely. The idea is that you have an external backup to fall back on if your Macintosh HD goes tits up.

You can but as stated above, it would be a bad idea.
