How can i set Timemachine to appear on the menu bar? The appropriate check box does not appear in Timemachine preferences, why is that?

Your Time Machine preferences window doesn't have this checkbox at the bottom?

Are you using 10.5.6? I think the menu bar icon was added in a point update (maybe 10.5.2?).

Ahuh, well on 10.5.5 the menu bar icon works, but i think that im running the same on the G5 too! Of course i might be wrong, ill check tomorow and let you know!

Try looking in /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras

for TimeMachine.menu ...

... if it's there, double-clicking it will add it to the menu bar.

Ok but if its in the MenuXtras shouldn't it be on the TMpreferences tab also?

Ok i have 10.5.1, might that be the problem?

Do yourself a favor and run software update. Later software versions fix bugs that are present in earlier versions, and they often include security fixes that leave you very vulnerable if you don't install them.

And yes, running a different version than everyone else might always be the problem.
