Very new to TimeMachine so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the LaCie P9230 2TB model HD.

It has worked, initial backup completed without a hitch. But having issues making the hourly backup, getting an "Error occurred while creating backup folder".

Getting a bit frustrated now. I had to create a partition to get the HD working in the first place.

Also what is the best way to use this? Should I be turning the power on to the HD before booting up my computer, or wait until I've booted? Also, once I've turned my computer off, is it then safe to turn my HD off?

I'd check the time machine disk for errors (and maybe look in your system logs for io related errors).

The only time machine problems I've had (and it took me a while to figure this out) was due to a faulty hard drive. It would start failing every time my 750gb external drive got to around 550gb full.

Don't rule this out because "but my drive is brand new!".

So was mine :D (sent it back for RMA, and its been fine since I've got the replacement drive back).
