Tiny delay when typing punctuation at the end of a sentence

When writing posts and responses here, I'm noticing a tiny delay when I type a period or question mark at the end of a sentence. There, it just happened right there. I don't recall this happening in the past, and the only thing that's changed lately is I upgraded to the Sonoma public beta last week. There it goes again! Also it only seems to happen on longer sentences.

Is anyone else seeing this? It's really annoying but I want to make sure it's an OS bug and not something with Macrumors before I report a bug. Yup, there it goes again! How strange.

I suspect that this is a result of the new large language model text processing in action. The OS is trying to figure out whether you mean to end a sentence or insert ellipses or something like that.

Ugh. If that's the case, this code really should be multithreaded and it shouldn't be causing typing to ever be delayed.

I did turn off predictive text to see if that would fix the problem but it's still happening. I guess it's time to open a Feedback over it.

EDIT: Also, it only seems to be happening in Safari. I just reported it, as a Safari bug. The problem did not occur as I was typing the Feedback post for example.

is this happening? am not seeing it. what mac are you on? on my M2 air, there is no lag when i type a . or a ? at the end of any sentence, even a longer one like this one i am making longer for no other reason than to test this out.....
