That was a sarcastic suggestion inspired by the confusion generated in the thread. Erase and Install should only be used for extremely drastic situations (or if you just want a clean slate)...not something as trivial as deleting a picture from Address Book.
You can sort of do that, but it's a pain...especially with the level of integration among Apple's apps. Sometime the data isn't stored where you think it is. (For instance, this presented itself as a Mail problem, when the solution was in Address Book.) And just reinstalling the program (which requires a third-party application like Pacifist to get the program back off your install disc) often isn't enough. There are small preference and library files in various places that are likely storing the actual data.
What you experienced wasn't a problem...reinstalling the app shouldn't even be on the list of things to do in a situation like this. It was just a matter of identifying what it was you were looking to do and how to accomplish it.
