Hi guys,

So we have transitioned over to apple this week. We bought a new MacBook Pro Touch Bar... and a iMac 5k 27" among other things.

Obviously theres things we like, but this thread is about system font sizes.

I think they are tiny... too small, and it surprises me that this isn't more spoken about.

My girlfriend, who is 26yrs old and has 20/20 vision has the MacBook on her lap and even then has to sometimes arch forwards to read whats on screen.

Me, I am 32, with near perfect vision, and on my iMac I struggle quite frequently to see the text. I have to move closer to read it and that just isn't comfy. Having the big bright monitor so close to my face so frequently.

I also find the font sizes a bit inconsistent. As an example, in the Mail app, sometimes I read emails that I can only describe as having a font size of about 8px... then on other emails, it seems a more reasonable 11px. (these pixel sizes are just comparative estimations based on what text looks like on my old 1080p windows pc)

Another example of small text, I just copied over some files from an external hardrive... the title "copying items" is small but acceptable... but underneath it, where it says "64gb of 76gb copied" is probably what Id describe as 6px. I have all this space on my big monitor... and the text isn't making use of it.

I'd love to have a larger overall font size, but without scaling down my expensive 5k monitor.

Am I alone with this?

The font size of emails received depends on the incoming message formatting.

The tiny fonts used in macOS can be annoying for those with small or high-resolution screens and there's no way to change it without ugly-fying. Not sure I know of any OS that's different in that regard.

This is not a common complaint, so wondering what setting you have in Display Preferences:
