Popular iOS game Tiny Wings has launched today on the fourth-generation Apple TV for $2.99. The launch was teased by the game's creator on YouTube earlier in the week, with a video that showcased the game, now called "Tiny Wings TV," and its split-screen multiplayer abilities.

Two players can play the game together on one Siri Remote, or with a combination of a Siri Remote and an Apple TV-supported MFi controller. Players can even connect to the iOS Tiny Wings app [Direct Link] and use their iPhone or iPad as a controller.

Otherwise, Tiny Wings TV keeps the same one-button control gameplay that requires players to guide a bird through levels by timing and aligning where the bird falls in the game's procedurally generated hillsides, which will look different every day it's played. iCloud support will also sync and save gameplay between the Apple TV and iOS versions of Tiny Wings.

This is the perfect game for the Apple TV that was a blast to play back in the day. Kinda said though that it's news when a semi-popular old game from the iPhone is ported to the Apple TV. The platform hasn't exactly had the same break-out success on their App Store. I'm more inclined to buy a game on Apple TV than my iPhone nowadays just to support further development.

Sad is definitely the word. It's hard for me to believe that after a year, tvOS still has no games worth buying. I've tried a few, even dropped $50 on an excellent MFi controller. It sits there unused as there is simply nothing to play.

I feel you, tvOS would be a great business for Nintendo if they weren't so closed.

Yeah I also bought a nice controller. Part of the problem was that Apple really limited everything at first by requiring every game work with the basic remote. Hopefully the AT&T DirecTV Now Apple TV 4 bundle deal puts a lot more units out into the wild so that there are more people buying games.

There are a few games I consistently come back to but only play for like 5-15 minutes at a time. These include Mr Crab 2, AG Drive, Canabalt, Mr Jump, Crossy Road, Mikey Shorts, Badland, Ducktales, Riptide, Alto's Adventure, Oceanhorn, Surfingers, and Sonic. Many are older games I already owned that were ported, several are free, some are simple one-click games with a repetitive mechanic and some done well, and some are remasters from other consoles. Don't think any of them were over $5. I don't really see many decent games being developed specifically with the Apple TV in mind—it's just more of an afterthought. Minecraft is supposed to be coming soon, and that might give the platform some legitimacy and possibly boost sales as this would be one of the cheapest ways to get Minecraft up and running for your kids while getting all the other benefits of the device.

I was really hoping the Apple TV 4 would become a legitimate gaming platform with more quality, deeper content than what is found on the iPhone and iPad. I have two young kids and my oldest will be three soon and she is becoming interested in games, so I was hoping the ATV4 would have a lot of family friendly games. I'm starting to think that maybe the Nintendo Switch will fill that role, perhaps combined with the NES Classic as soon as I can find one. I was worried for a while that Nintendo was dying, but I think they might save it now, so I don't have to root for Apple to replace them in the family living room. And as always, daddy will have his Xbox One and later on, Xbox Scorpio downstairs in his office where he does his real gaming, lol. I don't think the Apple TV will ever compete at that level so I'm just not even going to hope.

rats. and great news.

I was wondering if this simple game was linked to the AppleTV with the iPhone app...we have a new AppleTV coming as a gift for Christmas and though I really like this I thought it would be more of a universal app.

I loved the game on the iPhone

- 35 years of experience developing games for the most crazy, mostly non-documented platforms, crunching code to bitlevel so exotic that even palm trees don't have a chance to grow.
- 5,000 employees (today in 2016)

That company needs more than 3 months just to announce they will port a 20 year old game, onto worlds best designed, documented and supported platforms.

I'm sure that there's several Indies with bald spots on the back of their scalp because of all the scratching.

No love for Transistor? What about Oceanhorn? Or Octodad? All excellent games that for me at least fully justified my purchase of the absolutely excellent SteelSeries Nimbus.

Though to be fair, I also use that controller on my Mac, so it's not like they have to carry that weight alone.

I loved the game on iOS and the story of the developer making so much money in such a short time. I immediately bought it for my Apple TV. Easily worth a few bucks. Less than a beer at a bar. :)

I have no idea what those 3 are. And that's part of the problem.

There are no games with recognizable titles or belong to recognizable franchises.

Well hey, now you have heard of them!

Honestly, about half of all the great games out there really aren't part of a recognizable franchise and Transistor is straight up one of, like, the ten best games I've ever played. Definitely give it a look. And the MFi controller support is excellent, considering the game was originally designed for consoles.
