Just like you can move windows in the background by cmd-dragging them, the Liquid Glass slider can be cmd-dragged in a background Settings > Appearance window. This lets you try it out in a foreground app (Photos, Maps etc) without switching. It's not real time while sliding, though; it updates on mouseup.
