Picked up my iPhone X today with a price match to the nearby Apple Store price instead of $100 more.
Tips based on my experience from today. YMMV:
1) If you are picking up something else besides the iPhone, FIRST do the iPhone price match.
I was also picking up a bunch of Philips Hue Lightstrips to replace my kitchen undercabinet lighting.
The sales associate focused on that first and scanned the phone too I thought to mention the price match.
Once it scanned, apparently that means it was picked up.
He said after that point, the price match has to wait for 2 hours, because the phone's serial number is "unavailable" in their system for 2 hours.
He called the manager, she tried to help but couldn't.
These next 2 are optional but I think it helped things go smoothly in terms of the price match approval.
2) Bring a printout of the Best Buy 25 mile retail store price match policy
3) Bring a printout of the Apple Store price
If you forget 1) be careful of
4) "A price match after the fact , via refund and re-purchase, will invalidate that phone's serial # "
+ 2 hours later I was at a different Best Buy near other errands
That sales associate paused (thankfully) before doing a refund and re-purchase.
He was worried that would cause problems.
His manager agreed - saying that as soon as my iPhone was returned, the serial number would be invalid and I couldn't activate.
Because I was picking up other Hue things at that store that the other Best Buy was out of, they gave me the $100 discount off the Hue vs off the iPhone.
All is well! If I had remembered the price match before the iPhone box scan, it would have been completely painless.
Thanks so much to the persons who helped me out with this purchase here on MacRumors!
