That is exactly why I have Basic. It's just $9.16 a month.

You can pay with a TiVo a one-time payment for the guide. And it is transferable to a new TiVo box when you upgrade (if you upgrade).

TiVo is great. I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do, its great. No commercials, and during long stretches of boring time in TV shows you just skip through them and go right to the interesting parts.

My Comcast bill is around $125/month.

I've got Digital (Not HD), with HBO, plus high-speed Internet. I'm thinking about cancelling HBO...the only reason I have it is for Curb Your Enthusiasm, of which there hasn't been a new one for around a year now.

Love TIVO, loved DirecTV, hated Comcast, hate RCN. The condo building I moved into this year only allows cable (no dishes) and they have a contract with RCN that expires this summer. I'd really like to find a better alternative to Comcast or RCN.

The FCC has rules that can force the condo to allow you to have a dish if you want... There are some restrictions... If you do not have any southern facing exposure that you can mount the dish you might be out of luck, but read the page at the link above...
