TM backups Bonkers

Time Machine/Time CapsuLe/Airport
has 1,000,000+ to back up ==items are counting down
meanwhile-below¬
says: xx.xxGB oF XX.XXGB--about 5 seconds
aS xx changes (increasing)---XX also changes to higher(moRe)

Trouble started 3 days ago when oldest backup started to read "NONE"
and iT said it would take 3 days to backup the 1,600,000
+ items..
after 3 days it is trying again but instead of days -to complete-it says 5 secs
and keeps vhanging to a higher amount of GB to back-up????

Is this the first backup your doing with a TC? Or has this been a "working" configuration that just went nuts in the last couple of days?
