    Hi everyone
My Mac mini, died the other day and am wondering weather to wait for SL release to see if there are any speed bumps or just buy one now.
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks

Buy now. The earliest the Mac Mini can be updated is in Spring-Summer next year because that is when Intel will be releasing the next line of mobile processors.

Won't be one before or during the Snow Leopard release. And with anything to do with the Mac Mini predicting the next one is impossible. However, Apple has historically not updated computer lines with OS launches and there is no reason to believe why they would update the Mac Mini now.

Buy now ask questions later. If you are considering the system now because it would suit your needs, get it. A newer model doesn't make yours worthless (not that there will be a newer one, but in general).

Actually, since there won't any updates for at least a year, wait for SL and then buy. No need to spend an extra 10 bucks when a few more weeks would give it to you for free. Unless you have an urgent need for the machine, then wait until Sl is released.

I'd rather have the mini for a few weeks than the $10. That's just me though.

Anyway, don't wait for a mm update. The last time it was almost 18 months, so there's really no predicting it. And the current mini is a pretty great machine.

There's always something worth waiting for; but if the machine available now does the job then you don't need to wait for anything.

I dunno, given the upgrade schedule of the mini you could be waiting a very long time.

    Didn't wait

    Hi!

    First post on the forums!

I had promissed myself to wait for SL now that I knew it's just around the corner. But reading this thread last night broke me down totaly. I had the mini in and out of my apple store basket probably 10 times before I made up my mind. At around 2.00am local time (I had to make a decission so I could go to sleep) I pulled trigger on mac mini 2.0ghz 4gb/320gb. Also signed up for the SL upgrade for 8.95€.

But what if my mini should come with a SL upgrade disc slipped in to the box. Then I would end up with two SL upgrade DVDs. (95% sure not, but IF) Can I then use the 8.95€ upgrade DVD to upgrade my macbook unibody to SL? Or is it somehow only working for my newly orderd mini?

    -Rasmus

EDIT: By 8.95€ upgrade I'm refering to the postage only upgrade DVD apple is offering for mac orderd after early june.

The upgrade DVD might be generic and work with any model system. But you won't get SL with your Mini, so don't worry about getting 2.

    how do apple control upgrades

The only way I would be getting it is probably if the shipping of my mini would be delayed and apple would start shipping SL early. Fat chance...

Does anyone know how apple controls the update DVD. I mean, I woludn't be abel to upgrade both leopards (mini and MB) to SL with the same disc, would I?
I'm not saying I want to try it, after all 29€ isn't that much. Just interested how apple controls the update only going to one computer.

    They enclose computer specific DVDs.

So a Mac Mini Snow Leopard DVD will only install on Mac Minis.

Only the retail versions of OS X work on all machines.

I would have thought the 'free' up-to-date disc would also be generic, can't see apple trying to send out lots of different versions to different customers.

No they don't. Up-to-date promo Snow Leopard is the same as retail version. Install disks what came with your Mac are your Mac only, they won't work with other Macs.
