And specifically....

Apple exposed its complete lack of interest in building a stripped down, voice-only iPhone or a Mac-based netbook during its fiscal first quarter conference call Wednesday afternoon.

No iPhone nano

In response to analyst questions on iPhone pricing, Tim Cook, Apple's acting chief executive, stated, "We are now in over 70 countries with the iPhone and you're correct, some of them are non-subsidized markets. Examples are, the largest is in terms of size of the market, our sales are clearly materially less in those markets than they are in the subsidized markets with contracts. We are constantly evaluating the best way to play in these markets. We know there's a huge opportunity here, and we will make adjustments in the future there to play in a better way."

Cook also destroyed the speculation around an "iPhone nano," saying, "You know us, we're not going to play in the low-end voice phone business. That's not who we are. That's not why we're here. We'll let somebody do that, our goal is not to be the unit share leader in the phone industry. It is to build the best phone."

Thank you and good night iPhone Nano rumors!

Didn't Steve Jobs say they weren't interested in making a low-end music player without a display, about six or so months before they released the iPod Shuffle?

Why on earth would anyone believe what one of the most secretive companies in the world would say about upcoming products?

What have I been telling people from the start? If you think Apple is going to make a low end iPhone, you don't know what an iPhone is.

THANK YOU, Apple, for finally saying this.

Boy, if people around here didn't believe you, what makes you think they're gonna believe Tim Cook when he says the same thing?

Geez, I thought you knew how this place worked? :D

EDIT: I was beaten by proof of my point!

PRICELESS!! :D

Way to keep the nano rumor a possibility, i love it. :apple::apple::apple::apple:

Even though we have the usual skeptics I'm gonna go ahead and say "in your faces, nano weiners!!!!" :D

Don't bother arguing or replying with your "secretive Apple" comments cuz I really don't care.

Naw brah.

I read on this board that someone's mom would probably buy an iPhone Nano.

So keep living in your dream worlds, but the iPhone Nano is coming. Does the iPod Nano exist? Duh, of course it does. Boom. Thread over.

The best way to avoid this rumor is to not post anything about the iPhone Nano rumors and don't even click on it. Even though you are trying to end this rumor, you are attracting alot of people who might want to get in a hot debate with you.

is there an ignore feature on macrumors that really doesn't show anything that has to do with a certain word? like "nano", for instance?:)

So do his comments saying there isn't going to be one make it more likely that there is going to be a nano?

What's the deal with people taking offense to the rumor of some smaller iPhone as if it was Jack the Ripper? Get a grip.

I'm pretty sure that at some point someone at Microsoft said "we'll never release another $@%^tty product," but they still gave us Vista.

The conference call is geared toward shareholder, also known as pretty much the only people that matter. If they are lying, or misleading, or throwing anyone off it is the shareholders and they are the last people apple wants to lie to.

Die Die Die!!!

I'm just kidding.
Well, when Vista first came out, it was pretty bad. That's the main reason we're making fun of it here.
And because we're Apple Fanboys...:D
