I'm glad to hear this, but unfortunately this is not the end of the iPhone nano rumors.

Die Die Die!!!

I'm just kidding.
Well, when Vista first came out, it was pretty bad. That's the main reason we're making fun of it here.
And because we're Apple Fanboys...:D

+1

Except for Vista still sucks, IMHO.

In response to analyst questions on iPhone pricing, Tim Cook, Apple's acting chief executive, stated, "You know us, we're not going to play in the low-end voice phone business. That's not who we are. That's not why we're here. We'll let somebody do that, our goal is not to be the unit share leader in the phone industry. It is to build the best phone."

Cook also destroyed the speculation around an "iPhone nano," saying, "We are now in over 70 countries with the iPhone and you're correct, some of them are non-subsidized markets. Examples are, the largest is in terms of size of the market, our sales are clearly materially less in those markets than they are in the subsidized markets with contracts. We are constantly evaluating the best way to play in these markets. We know there's a huge opportunity here, and we will make adjustments in the future there to play in a better way."

These two sentences are a bit contradictive. It could be that it means that they will build a cheaper best phone or that, as the current iPhone's price will drop, it could get into market without subsidized contract while they produce a better new phone and override palm pre. To sum up, two options: iPhone nano or iPhone pro, tough the second seems more likely considering these quotes.

Didn't Steve Jobs say they weren't interested in making a low-end music player without a display, about six or so months before they released the iPod Shuffle?

I don't know ... did he?

Besides, he probably said something along the lines of "without a screen, we wouldn't be able to provide the full iPod experience" - which is true. The shuffle doesn't provide the "full" iPod experience.

But, without you (or someone) providing a link to the quote, we can't assume one way or the other.

Why on earth would anyone believe what one of the most secretive companies in the world would say about upcoming products?

He also said they weren't interested in making an iPod that could do video. ;)

I think what's obvious is that Apple will not come out with an iPhone Nano, but they might drop the price of the current iPhone models and introduce a premium iPhone mid year, nothing crazy (big screen = no), but just more hardware.
