I'm going to stop by Germany to visit relatives, and thinking of picking up a German case instead of poetic. I saw stilgut and kavaj mention in this forum and wanted to see it

i want a leather folio and i found these two brands and they are the same price!
for those of u who are familiar with these german brands, which one is better? they both have very high rating on amazon too

stilgut

kavaj

quite frankly, the Stilgut UltraSlim looks like the typical claw-type folio cases you can get for $10-$20 like the Poetic Strapback, Moko folio, Marware Ceo hybrid, etc. so I'm not sure if its worth the price StilGut is asking for. I can't tell if its real leather but from one of the amazon comments it said the ipad 2 version is PU leather (faux leather).
that Kavaj model on the other hand, you could use it as a folio stand with 3 positions, or you can bed the flap back and get a good typing position. can't tell if its real leather though. The comments in the Kavaj said something about scratches.. but theres far more comments on the stilgut..and both generally seem to have very satisfied feedback customers.
what's strange is that looking at the "Produktgewicht inkl. Verpackung" the Kavaj seems so much lighter by nearly 500 grams. even though the design looks a bit more complicated and thicker.

I'm about to buy the Kavaj London case...I have the iPhone version of the Stilgut, but whilst it's a good case, I think its a bit pricey....The Kavaj range get good reviews, and also comes with a stylus...I have a Targus Vuscape on my iPad at the moment, but I'm not happy with it. I always seem to buy two cases for my iPads before I get one I like.:)

Why are you not happy with the vuscape?

Why are you not happy with the vuscape?

I can't put my finger on it, but mostly it comes down to having to unclip the bottom grips to make it stand up. I've gone back to my snapshiled rear cover for now, but take no notice, I am REALLY OCD about cases....They have to feel right. There isn't anything really wrong with the Vuscape...Just doesn't suit me...:)

Why are you not happy with the vuscape?

i had a vuscape myself and returned it because the auto on/off didn't work, i didn't like that giant hole in the back, and the left hinges were really hard to unhook to use in stand mode. It was also a really tight fit.. I've a feeling its just a re-numbered ipad 2 case.

it wasn't totally bad. it felt nice and was pretty sturdy. just several minor things they could've fixed to make it great.

Thx for both of your replies. I am trying to decide between vuscape, kavaj, and stilgut since the ridge from devicewear is unavailable in Europe. With kavaj and stilgut being rather expensive I might go with vuscape assuming they have ressovled the magnet issue.

Hi Guys,

I've also searched the net for weeks so far have first got my hands on the most common one you can find on the market that rotates 360 and looks like this:

and now got a StilGut like case this:
$(KGrHqZ,!jgE8)CRfCDyBPcsC0UPlQ~~60_3.JPG

I cannot stress enough how bulky and cumbersome those 360 degrees cases feel. Will definitely not recommend it to anyone, no matter how cheap they are and I have a whole new appreciation of the weight of a case a buying factor.

I really like the extra functionality and the way StilGut integrated it in their design. It's also made from real leather.
You can check out a good video review of their iPad 2 version (which is the same) here
[iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/H0bBOKmlvqg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen][/iframe]

If there is anything that stops me from recommending that, its the price ~$77/? delivery. If you are however willing to try a faux leather StilGut copy first, here is way

get this
ap_ipad3reya_04.jpg

you can oder this one from eBay (I ordered the cream one) which is only $23/free delivery here

Now, after watching the KAVAJ Hamburg case video here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWdLpJPXhw8

and this 2.5 min review here (in German but its great)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-1378u53dw

and after comparing their respective weight...
KAVAJ Hamburg: 181 g
StilGut Ultraslim: 263 g
Targus 360 Case: 318 g

...I am now reaaally tempted to recommend the KAVAJ Hamburg one because its practically offers the same functionality but its so much lighter. Well, that is unless you want an White color which only StilGut offers.

BTW, StilGut also has a brown leather version of their UltraSlim Case now too.

Thx for your input lantinian. While the kavaj case definitely appear to be great in terms of design, look, feel, weight and functionality, I do, however, think that it may not provide the same level of protection against bumbs/drops compared to e.g. Stilgut ultraslim as it seems much softer.

since Amazon has a generous return policy, why not buy both and return the one you don't want? and then tell us what you think at Macrumors :apple:
