Let's just say I am not very happy with the last versions of iTunes. I am now trying to digitize all my CDs (about 1000) and store them locally (I think, why should I pay storage when I have 3 terabytes of data on my mypassport.

So my question is should I stick with iTunes or is it something better out there? and with iTunes can I keep my songs locally (on mypassport) or do I have to upload them to the iCloud?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I'd say keep them somewhere besides iTunes, but put the songs you'd like to keep on your phone onto iTunes. Multiple times iTunes has deleted my library and I've lost rare versions of songs. It's convenient to have them on iTunes for easy access, but if you'd just like to use it for long term storage use something else
