To the Parents: Jealousy

When i see my father look at me......its more on the line of "this young buck think he's fooling me...been there done that"

I dont see it as jealousy....just watching you grow to be who you are.

I wouldn't be surprised if some parents felt what could be interpreted as jealousy. For instance, my parents had a really rough time growing up; then moved to a foreign country where they could barely speak the dominant language, while pregnant, with no friend or familial or financial support... They carved out a place, worked their behinds off-- and as a result, my sister and I have had an incredibly luxurious and cushy upbringing (especially when compared to how my parents grew up).

In that regard, I do believe that some parents wished they had the same luxuries and opportunities that their children have.

But no, I don't believe that a truly caring parent could ever begrudge a child or be truly jealous of one.

I love these success stories they are so beautiful!

i know i'm getting old, i find myself giving those looks to "kids" all the time. except in my mind it's more of a: "who does this punk-ass-kid think he's fooling?" kinda thing.

LOL. My step-daughter is starting college this year and the past few years, as she's started dating and going to parties and stuff, she has been spewing back all the same b/s I used to say to my mom when I was growing up.
And she thinks she's fooling us, even when we call her out...

It's all perspective. Appreciate your parents now, then appreciate your kids later. What you give, you'll usually get back.
