Firefox loads pretty fast for me . . .

Safari's pretty fast too, but I don't see a difference when I load the same site in both browsers. If Safari IS a bit faster, it isn't very noticeable. For me, at least.

Noscript, adblock plus, and to a lesser extent fasterfox.

once you get used to it, you'll never want to browse without a scripting whitelist again.

What's that doubleclick.net? no scripts for you.

(also google-analytics.com, cetrk.com, and those are just the sites trying to run scripts when one visits macrumors.)

I like safari 3's dimming and highlight search, though.

All four browsers (safari, firefox, opera, camino) have memory issues after the 8-12 hour mark with greater than 20 tabs/windows, though.

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.7, and the latest public non-beta version of Safari 2. Unlike you, Safari seems slower than Firefox to me, and I do NOT have Fasterfox installed. I have no idea why Firefox runs so slowly for you.

I'm with you. I've been running Firefox on my iMac since I got it and it runs great here. I tried Safari, and it's fine, but I prefer the features Firefox has. I can detect no difference in speed between Safari and Firefox.

Camino is great except its built-in ad blocking pref sucks.

Safari EATS ram, way more than the camino and firefox.

Firefox has all the features I like through extensions, and it runs pretty well on my Mac Pro. The only downside is the widgets/form elements look terrible unless you install firefoxy.

I haven't used Shiira or Omniweb. I will see what Safari 3 is like when it's out of beta on Leopard.

Why ask people who use Firefox to defend it to you? You already know Firefox, so you know what its redeeming qualities are.

You have two major options:

1) Figure out how to make Firefox livable for you on a Mac... if this is what you want, focus on what you want (speed, anything else?) and let people specifically help you with any tricks to make Firefox faster. Like evaluating whether you want to try a Firefox 3 alpha/beta, some configural or plug-in tricks, etc....

2) If you don't think you can live with FF, then ask about the things you want and how you can get them in another browser, to determine if you should migrate to Safari, Opera, Camino, Shiira, or another browser.

But it seems to me that having people defend Firefox/Mac to you is just silliness.

FWIW, legal disclosure, I rarely use Firefox/Mac (in spite of using it routinely on Windows) because I prefer Safari 3.

Quoted for awesomeness.

No idea. It's still in Alpha, but it's pretty stable. According to the Mozilla dev wiki, they're working on a new UI.

sorry I missed this my favorite topic, I was busy in iTouch board

...

at this stage, I recommend firefox 3.0 alpha, faster, lots of exciting new stuff.

generally, compare to safari, firefox has

1. better tabs, better single window mode
2. extensions, if you love them
3. themes if you love them
4. better cookie manager (for now)
5. better password manager
6. better phishing protection
7. better compatibility
8. better download manager
9. better spell checker (for now)
10. better inline search (for now)
11. better update support (safari update like... every two years?)
12. better crossplatform synchronization, if you care.
...

if your firefox is unusually slow, try a "clean" re-installation, including app and its profile.

When is it supposed to come out?

It was originally scheduled for November 2007, but I don't think it's going to come close. It recently missed the transition from Alpha to Beta, so it will be a while, regardless of how good it seems to be.
