I like how a naked case just slips into my pocket. Pulling it out is easy too but can at times be precarious as I don’t feel I have a secure grip on the phone. I do like having full tactile feel of the switches without being impeded by a case. I don’t like laying down a phone on a table without a case as it doesn’t lie flat because of the lens bump. The lens are covered with sapphire so they shouldn’t scratch, but phone not laying flat bothers me.

Every time I bought Apple Silicone and Leather cases, maybe also a Spigen Ultra Hybrid and then used my iPhone caseless for a lot of time. No major damage since iPhone 6 (owned 6, 7, 8 plus and now XS), knocking on wood.

I went this route for the first time with my 11 Pro. Had it 3 weeks and it flew out of my shirt pocket as I was running to get out of a sudden rainstorm. Landed face down on the asphalt / aggregate pavement. Many very tiny (almost imperceptible) scratches on the the screen. You have to give Apple and Corning credit for that glass: it didn’t shatter.

Not sure a case would have helped; it might have kept the phone more securely lodged in my pocket, I suppose.

I am bummed out every time I see those scratches though...

After a year or two, I finally freed my white iPhone 4S from it’s bulky, black plastic, two-part case and LOVED it so much more. That said, as extremely careful and fastidious as I was, I still managed to get a noticeable scratch on the back glass.

I’ve finally freed my X from a case this summer and one day I was getting out the car and it slid out my pocket straight onto the bricked driveway. Cracking the top left corner of the screen with a line going diagonally down it. Still very usable but a little upsetting.

it’s had A good life and only damage I’ve done to a phone since the first one

a sleeve as opposed to a case can be a good compromise

I go case-less on and off. I have had the iPhone X for about 3 years. The only regret I have is not being more careful. While my phone never cracked or broke, it does have a good amount of scratches on the stainless steel and front glass. Though, the feel of having the naked phone in my hand is priceless.

I might try the new sleeve Apple has for the iPhone 12 this year.

I'm thinking of going this route. Any word on the photos that Apple used in it's marketing- looks like a case with an opening for the time to show through?

Personally over the years especially when the iPhone camera bump had not gotten too protruding (iPhone 5 to prior X) I have used sleeves because I liked to use the phone naked and it would sit nicely flat on the table.

I got these sleeves cheaply on AliExpress but they were very well made some even out of pure leather or synthetic.

No regrets though I have used tempered glass front and back protectors and with the new iPhone 12 I will probably use film protectors (which wasn't really possible with the 2.5d glass of previous iPhone). Unless you're prone to dropping your phone on a hard floor you're fine.

I like to use my phone without a case from time to time, plus I've got apple care plus.

I usually don’t use a case unless it’s a long day shopping/running errands where the kids may end up watching videos on my phone or camping. For those situations I use a Apple silicone case.

Ive gone naked since the iPhone 5. Never even cracked a screen. I always get apple care + just incase but never had to use it. These phones are beautiful designed and just feel and look too good to ruin in a case. Just my opinion

No its fairly durable, except the screen actually, which would have been unprotected with a case.

I bought many some leather cases along with a silicone but now I go without a case. Only damage is on steel which is fine by me, adds character. Screen though either apple care or protector. It does scratch. Back is good, only scratches on camera metal rings. None on lens. Few scratches on back glass.
Only case I use now is the smart battery case when I feel like it. That is the one I’ll be getting for 12P as well. Hopefully MagSafe gives a killer redesign

No regrets. I’ve polished the stainless still frame on my X a couple of times. I believe that’s not possible on space gray/green/gold. Anyone with those variants has had the coating peeling or something like that? I’m wondering if pacific blue will survive 3 years with no case or if I should go with silver again.

I think I’m finally going to try caseless again with my 12 pro max. Haven’t gone caseless in a long time but this new glass seems promising and I’m a lot less careless with my phone now than I was 10 years ago. Plus I always get AppleCare so if I do break a screen I get a cheap replacement and move to a case.

I’ve been caseless with my 6S and there are only minor scratches that aren’t very noticeable

it’s worth the trade off to me since I do not like the additional bulk a case adds

I’m getting an iPhone 12 Pro and intend to go caseless as well, but my main question is about the huge cameras on the back - are there any accessories specific to them for protection or should I not worry about it?

can't stop laughing at some of these stories. Im usually careless so im always mindful of which pockets I put my phone in, and I never leave my phone on my lap. I have a 11 pro so this phone is a bit smaller for me and its been easy to handle so I always feel confident without one, but I plan on getting a iPhone 12 pro max and ill def be slapping a case on just to help with gripping the phone when im out and about

I used my 11 Pro Max caseless and this thing is quite resistant. Surprisingly, what broke it was a fall when I was sitting at a diner. It shattered the back but the front is okay, but it's scratched to hell. I recommend putting a tempered glass even when naked.
