What if you could choose only ONE mac to use, which would it be? - iMac 20/24", MacPro, MBP 17", MBP 15", MBA or MB 13" ?

I'm guessing already that the MBP 15" is the hands down winner, but I could easily be wrong ... I might of gone that route but I found it a little heavy and warm running.

well, there is one deciding factor, do you need a portable mac or not.

if yes, how portable does it have to be? if i am on the road and i don't have another mac, the 17" is your portable desktop replacement. if you find this cumbersome, then 13".

if you do not need a mac to travel, the macpro is clearly the winner (assuming a decent monitor).

Of the choices I'd choose a 15" MacBook Pro, but only if it was non-unibody and had a Matte screen. If it was only the unibody version that I had the choice of then I would go with a Mac Pro and suffer not having a laptop.

It has to been only one Mac and money is not the issue? Well, I'm no longer traveling much, so for me it would be an Octo Core Mac Pro with two 30" Cinema Displays. :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

I'm all about the Mac Pro. I don't really need a portable computer since my iPhone takes care of the things I want to do while on the road.

15" MBP + Display. I don't need Mac Pro power and i like the flexibility of being able to move so no point in the iMac..i also find iMacs are a bit harder to resell from experience and a 17" MBP is just a rip off IMHO...at that point just get a Mac Pro/iMac

iMac 20"

Don't overkill your purchase because as time goes on you're going to want to purchase the new Macs.

Just get what you need for now.

If I were limited to one Mac, then probably a 24" iMac (or a Mac Pro assuming money is not an issue). And an HP Mini 1000 for portable needs! ;)

If I were limited to one computer, then probably a 17" MacBook Pro. Maximum power and reasonable portability, plus that awesome battery. A 15" MBP only if I could not afford the 17". :)

If I wasn't paying for it, I would either have a 17" MBP or a Mac Pro with a 30" ACD. Most of the time, I don't like staying at a desk, so my choice is the MBP.

I lust after a 15" MBP... but I'm currently stuck on my moms 24" iMac. Its a solid performer, but I want some mobility.
SG :apple:

17" MBP. Completely usable as a desktop replacement but still portable.

Although, to tell the truth, I don't know how I'd manage with just a laptop - I run a desktop mac as a server, which handles my iTunes library (300gb) as well as being a web/mail/sftp/irc and file server.
