Toast made my widescreen a full screen - why?

I put my mp4 file in Toast and burnt it to a DVD. It converted it, and burnt it. I put it in my DVD player and what was a widescreen movie on my computer was now a fullscreen movie. I've looked all over Toast for the answer and can't find it. Help!

This is how you do it on Toast 8;

1.Select DVD-Video

2.Click on options to bring up the options menu (if it is not already)

3.Click More

4.Click Encoding

5.Click Custom

6.Change aspect ratio from automatic to 16:9

I changed the aspect. and now the people are not cut off on the side but it is still not widescreen on my tv.. am i doing something wrong... i changed the aspect ratio to 16.9 and there faces are still squished.
